should I get my wasps nest removed?
You may be wondering if it’s worth getting your wasps nest removed. It’s true that wasps usually only attack if they feel threatened. However there are exceptions – like when they:
- Want to eat your dinner
- Are crazy for the lollipop your child is holding
- Crawl into a drink can you’ve left unattended
- decide to have a snooze in your shoe
What’s more when a wasp feels threatened, it releases a distress pheromone that alerts the rest of the colony – including the queen. This can quickly turn into a stinging frenzy.

For most people, a wasp sting is painful but not life-threatening. The sting delivers venom that causes a sharp, burning pain and swelling – followed by persistent itching that can last for days.
For some however a wasp sting can be more serious and allergic reactions can cause:
- Swelling of the face or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Rapid heartbeat
- Anaphylactic shock (a medical emergency)
Multiple stings (e.g. from disturbing a nest) increase the risk of a severe reaction, even in those without known allergies. In addition children and older adults may react more strongly.
How can I remove a wasps’ nest?
Sometimes people try to remove a wasps nest themselved but this isn’t something we’d recommend.
Our team have the correct equipment, training and treatment to remove the nest successfully and without being stung by aggressive wasps defending their home.
We can normally treat and remove the nest in one visit. The area then needs to be left clear – ideally for 24 hours. This is due to the possibility of returning wasps who were not in the nest at the time of removal and may attack.
